Udyam Registration – Online MSME Registration on the Udyam Portal

Free, Paperless, Instant MSME Registration Through the Government Udyam Registration Portal

Udyam Registration is the Government of India's official online portal for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) registration, launched by the Ministry of MSME on 1 July 2020. It replaced the earlier Udyog Aadhar Memorandum (UAM) system with a fully digital, Aadhaar-linked, PAN-verified process that auto-populates key financial data from Income Tax and GST databases — eliminating manual documentation for most enterprises and generating a permanent Udyam Registration Number (URN) and downloadable certificate instantly upon verification.

Our Udyam Registration services assist businesses in completing fresh registrations, migrating from Udyog Aadhar, making amendments, and understanding the full range of MSME benefits available after registration. This service connects with our MSME registration advisory, Startup India recognition for dual-qualifying entities, and business restructuring services for entities undergoing MSME reclassification.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Udyam Registration?
Udyam Registration is the Government of India's official online MSME registration system, introduced by the Ministry of MSME on 1 July 2020. It replaced the Udyog Aadhar Memorandum system and provides a free, paperless, Aadhaar-based registration that generates a permanent Udyam Registration Number (URN) and downloadable MSME certificate — typically within minutes of completing Aadhaar OTP verification.
What documents are required for Udyam Registration?
Udyam Registration requires minimal information: Aadhaar number of the proprietor, managing partner, or authorised director (with OTP verification); PAN of the entity or individual proprietor; and GSTIN if the business is GST-registered. Financial data including investment and turnover is auto-populated from the ITR and GST databases. No physical documents need to be uploaded or submitted.
Is Udyam Registration free of charge?
Yes. Udyam Registration is completely free on the official government portal at udyamregistration.gov.in. There are no government fees for new registration, amendment, or certificate download. Businesses should be cautious of third-party websites that charge fees for Udyam Registration — the official portal is the only authorised channel.
What is the difference between Udyog Aadhar and Udyam Registration?
Udyog Aadhar Memorandum (UAM) was the previous MSME self-declaration system, which required only a self-declaration of investment. Udyam Registration replaced it from 1 July 2020 with a more rigorous system that cross-validates investment and turnover data against PAN and GST databases. All UAM registrations ceased to be valid after 31 December 2021 and required migration to Udyam.
Can I update or amend my Udyam Registration details?
Yes. Udyam Registration details can be updated online through the Udyam portal using your Udyam Registration Number and Aadhaar. Updateable fields include business address, NIC activity codes, bank account details, additional business units, and changes in investment and turnover figures. Annual self-declaration of turnover and investment is also required to keep the registration current.
